NOHA Gender Diversity Pre Season Chat
Please be advised, that in addition to the requirement for all Team Officials to complete the on-line gender diversity training, there is a requirement for the Coach of each team to have a "preseason chat" with the parents and players on their team (this requirement is for all teams whether they are house league, select, A, AA or AAA). These requirements are arising from a settlement of a human rights application with the Human Rights Tribunal of Ontario (HRTO)
Attached is a memorandum from the Ontario Hockey Federation (OHF) further explaining this requirement, along with a check list that will assist in framing the discussion together with a glossary of terms. The OHF will also be producing and distributing a PowerPoint presentation that will be available by the end of next week that can assist with the presentation of this information if the Coach chooses to use that style of presentation. In order to monitor compliance with this requirement, Hockey Canada and the OHF will be performing an audit to review the level of compliance.Details on the audit requirements (as agreed to with the HRTO) are as follows: 1. Random audits must be done in 2018-2019 and 2019-2020 (OHF 250 assoc., HEO 26 assoc., HNO 10 assoc.) and the audits need to be completed by November 10th.2. By November 30th the OHF, in partnership with the Members, will follow up with any of the audited associations who have not completed the chats asking why they are not complete and asking them to complete the process.3. If 2019-2020 audits show completed chats by 80% of the associations audited (i.e. OHF 200, HEO 21, HNO 8) the association's audits will no longer be required. If not the OHF will continue audits annually until the 80% threshold is reached. (note this is not accumulative we must reach 80% success in a given year)
